S4: Industry 4.0 & blockchain: the era of new models

Description according to consumers

Consumers seek immediate access to as many services as possible, but they are not simply in a hyper-consumption mindset.

They are aware of their responsibility, they think about future issues, notably environmental ones, and they use technology to optimise their choices and consume intelligently. They may sometimes pursue three occupations in parallel as a freelancer. One of these occupations consists in helping companies raise funds through ICOs. They are paid for this in tokens, and have indeed created their own currency to offer their services. They face strong competition in so far as more and more individuals are positioning themselves in a market whose technology has become more accessible. Their activity is paced in real time by customer requests in a regionalised market. They have little free time but can optimise it by smoothing their activity according to the companies present in the area to which they belong. They can also supplement their income by being paid for their data in the form of tokens. Moreover, their status is much better protected by European regulation that has become more effective and by competition that is no longer globalised but regionalised.

Other individuals are genuinely positioned as experts in occupations in short supply (data scientists). Their services are provided mainly to large manufacturers or innovative start-ups and command very high prices. They thus enjoy substantial incomes and significant amounts of free time, allowing them to consume high value-added services.

Citizens generally show greater acceptance of the platform economy and of data management in so far as Europe has managed to play a more effective regulatory role in data protection, taxation and the environment. Moreover, citizens are more active in shaping the changes to the technological system by regaining control of their own data through the production and exchange of customisable tokens.
